"But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

~II Corinthians 12: 9-10

Introduction
September 1, 2009

Life is funny. You can be going along just fine and then something happens that throws your life into a tailspin. Maybe you lose your job. Maybe you lose a family member. Maybe your best friend moves away. Maybe someone who you respected does something that shatters your view of them. Maybe you get a diagnosis from a doctor that shows you how fragile life is.

What do you do in those situations?

Do you turn to God? Do you turn from God?

As we begin this Stories of Strength column, I encourage you to examine how you respond to adversity. Because unfortunately, adversity and strength go hand in hand. It is not until you are at the bottom that you truly see strength emerge. And, for those of you who have gone through any of the above situations like I have, you truly see strength and you truly see that it is not of you. It is from the Lord.

In this column each week, we will explore many stories from the Bible and many stories from everyday women. These stories will show adversity, weakness, and strength. They will also show how powerful being weak is because it is then that the Lord reveals His strength. II Corinthians 12: 9-10 says it best:

"But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

As we begin this series on strength, you may be feeling very weak. I know I have days like that. And, it is on those days that I praise God for His strength. Even if I am praising Him with a broken hallelujah.
