Still Serve Him
I got a phone call from a friend recently that left me feeling helpless. Have you ever had that happen? You are listening to them talk and your heart is breaking and you pray and pray that the Lord will give you just the right words to say to make it better. Well I went through the whole conversation and still had nothing to say that could possibly make her situation any better.
One verse came to mind and that was 1 Corinthians 10:13:
“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted he will provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.???
I kind of paraphrased this verse to her and wondered if it would really do any good. I got off the phone with her and started thinking about the latter part of that verse. ….He will provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
We have all had times when we’ve wondered if we would make it through. How much more Lord? How much longer? How much more pain? When will it all be over? Some of us have come through it and look back and see God’s hand through it all and everything did turn out okay or even great. And, others of us look back and think, we did all the right things, we prayed, turned it over to God and things didn’t turn out in our favor. We then find ourselves questioning God.
I wish that I could explain to you why bad things happen to God’s children but I can’t. I have gone through things myself and with people I dearly love that have been painful and the results weren’t positive. The fact is, friend, that life isn’t fair but God is just.
In the book of Daniel, Shadrach , Meshach and Abednego were about to be thrown into the blazing furnace and their response to the king was go ahead. The God we serve is able to save us from the fire, but if he doesn’t we will still serve him. Now most of us know how the story ends: God does save them.
We need to have that same attitude. When we are faced with the “blazing furnace??? we need to say “God whatever happens I will still serve you.??? I don’t know what you are facing today, friend, but don’t lose heart and stand firm and know that no matter what happens, He is still God.
