Verse of the Day

""Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her. "

Mary and Martha

Are you a Mary or a Martha? In verse 40, it tells us that Martha was busy with the preparations of Jesus’ arrival. Martha gets so upset because Mary is just content sitting at the feet of Jesus and listening to him speak. Martha thinks that Mary should be helping her out. Martha was more worried about the house, the food and other unimportant things.

Now my question at the beginning was…. Are you a Mary or a Martha? I love having people in my home. At our previous church we had a small group that met in our home every week. I would find myself cleaning and preparing, much like Martha. I wanted to make sure that everyone was taken care of and comfortable in my home. Now, I do not think that that is what is going on here. I think that while Jesus was speaking, Martha was probably washing dishes, putting things away, washing tables, and taking out the trash. I don’t think she stood still long enough to hear the words that Jesus was speaking.

As I think of Martha rushing around I relate it to our busy lives and am reminded of Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.??? This verse has made it into a lot of our blogs and devotionals but we need to do exactly what it says. Jesus makes it so clear that it is important to be at His feet. The things that we learn while waiting at His feet will last. They will guide us and direct us in our lives.

I am pleading with you today to be a Mary!!! God is waiting for you this morning. He is just sitting and quietly waiting. Don’t rush by Him, stop and spend time with Him today!

Memorize this verse today:

""Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her. "
~Luke 10:41-42
