Verse of the Day

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

Perseverance

When you read these verses notice that the writer doesn’t say if you face trials, he says whenever you face trials. Trials are inevitable in our lives. We will face them and when we do will we view them feeling discouraged or will we consider it pure joy?

I sometimes can’t wrap my brain around that concept. Having faced trials in my life, I can’t say that I always embraced them and had joy. However, we all know that when facing something so difficult we must have patience while enduring. The Greek word for this type of patience is hupomone which describes an active endurance. We shouldn’t be sitting and waiting for the trial to be over. We are running a marathon, so to speak. At the root of this ancient Greek word, it gives the meaning of remain under. This paints a picture of someone remaining under a heavy load. They could put it down and walk away but they know they must endure.

Our faith is tested through our trials. It is not produced in them. Faith comes from reading God’s word and spending time with Him daily. We see in our trials how much faith we really have. Having gone through something quite difficult in the last year, I look back and see the faith that I had and how I stood up under the adversity I was facing. Oh, it was painful and very difficult, but I knew at the center of it the Lord was helping me, giving me the strength I needed to endure and I had such incredible faith that God would see me through. Now, let me say ladies that I definitely had days that were unbearable, but I do think that in those days my faith in God sustained me. I knew in the end that I would be okay. I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be, but I knew God had plans for me and those plans were not to harm me but to give me life abundant. Being on the other side of that great trial and continuing to heal, my life is full and God is showing me daily all the plans He has for me.

Friends, if you are facing trials today and are under that heavy load trying with all your might to hold it up, just remember your faith in Christ and know that He has plans for you and they are not to harm you but to give you life abundant. This is only for a season. You will be strengthened when this trial is over.

Memorize this verse today:

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
~James 1:2-4
