Plans to Prosper

Jeremiah 29:11 reads, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

I love this verse! Over the last few weeks this verse has popped up in various bible readings and bible studies that I have worked on. This verse gives me such hope. We all have faced or will face tough times. Things will happen in our lives that we are shocked by and hurt by. I experienced that this year. My husband and I were hurt by someone very close to us, a betrayal of sorts. When it unfolded we were stunned and found ourselves wondering exactly what was going on. I remember praying and asking God that very question…What is going on? I remember feeling so desperate and searching for answers to our situation. I was searching the Bible, devotional books, and really anything I could get my hands on that I thought would help. This verse was among the verses that I read and also was a verse given to me by a friend. God has plans for our lives and although, at times, we don’t see how what is going on fits into them, I believe that in the midst of the questions and the pain we must dig down deep and find our strength to move forward and see what God’s plans are for us. Now, for us, we did go through a very difficult time. But in the end, we saw God’s plan and we know and have learned that we do have hope and a bright future in our Lord.

How does this verse help you though? I don’t know what is going on in your life today. Maybe you’re reading this and your life is great. If so, praise the Lord! Maybe you’re reading this and your life is falling apart. Maybe your marriage is ending, your child is rebelling or you have turned to something or someone other than the Lord and you are regretting it now. Things may look hopeless to you, but please listen to me!!! God does have a plan for your life. God would never do anything to harm you. He only wants to see you prosper. He wants to give you hope and a future that is bright and endless. Take time now to talk with the Lord and seek his wisdom and direction for your life.

Memorize this verse today:

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
~Jeremiah 29:11
