Praying for Us
John 17:20-26 is a prayer that Jesus is praying for us, his children. When I read this portion of scripture I am so overcome with emotion. These verses were written thousands of years ago. We weren’t even alive and yet Jesus was praying for us.
How many times in your life have you faced a terrible tragedy or difficult situation and you simply didn’t know how to pray? I remember quite some years ago that our daughter was very sick and for a short while the doctors were concerned with whether she would make it. Now honestly, in that moment, I didn’t realize how grave a situation it was because I was simply in shock. I do remember, though, not even knowing how to pray or what to say because I was hurting and scared and in disbelief. My spirit was groaning and in so much pain and the one thing that sticks out in those difficult moments was I believed that Jesus was praying for me to the Father. I had such a strange sense of peace in the midst of it. Now, I know that there were many people praying for all of us, but my point is that when we don’t know how to pray because we are in so much pain, that is when Jesus intercedes on our behalf. Let that sink in for a minute. Jesus loves us so much that He sees our pain and knows that we are, at times, so paralyzed by it that He prays for us when we can’t. I am speechless.
Romans 8:34b tells us that Jesus is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. I am so encouraged by these verses today and I hope that you are as well. We have a God that loves us so much. He sent His son to die for us so that we can have eternal life with Him in Heaven. Not only that, but while on this earth, He has sent us a comforter in the Holy Spirit and in the midst of our sorrow and sadness, or difficult times we have a Savior who intercedes for us. Thank you Lord!!
