Verse of the Day

"I’d rather for you to be faithful and to know me than to offer sacrifices."

~Hosea 6:6

Today's Devotional Thought

Get to Know God

Today's verse was in my studies this week and the more I have thought about it the more precious it has become to me. I love being involved in the church. I love leading bible studies, singing and just being a part of the church body. I find myself very busy doing and helping. This verse convicted me.

When I began studying it a bit deeper I realized that it was really talking about my relationship with the Lord. Many times, we as Christians aren’t necessarily growing in our relationship with Lord, but we are working for him in the church, in our communities, in the ministry or other various ways. I believe this verse is telling us that we need to first work on our relationship with the Lord and grow in our knowledge and love for Him and then work for Him in the ways that He leads us to.

Building a deep and intimate relationship with the Lord is time consuming. We have to have tremendous discipline. We have to take the time each day to spend with him. Now, I realize that all who are reading this have different time schedules. Some of us work outside the home and some work inside the home. Some of us have lots of time to spend with the Lord and some of us barely have time to sleep or use the bathroom. I am aware of the fact that for some of us finding time to sit and be still and quiet before the Lord is an issue. We are all at different phases in our lives. Some days we have lots of time to sit and listen to the Lord and study His word. Other days are crazy and we are running all day long and we find ourselves slipping in a few minutes with Him. Now obviously the more time we spend with Him the better. I believe, though, that God understands.

I know that I have spent a large part of my life thinking that in order to be a super Christian I had to devote hours a day to the Lord and if I couldn’t do that then forget it. We all have responsibilities in our lives and as those responsibilities change so will the time that we can spend with the Lord. Ladies, I want to strongly encourage you today that, no matter what, you find time to spend with Him. Just because it can’t be 1 or 2 hours doesn’t mean you shouldn’t spend any time. Please just sit and be still before the Lord for as long as you can so that He can encourage you and strengthen you for what is ahead in your journey.

When you have spent time with the Lord and have developed a deep and loving relationship with Him and have grown in knowledge, I believe that then we can lead and do for and help others.

To do those things without a deep and personal relationship with the Lord makes then almost like empty mockery. They become things that we just do because we think that’s what we are suppose to do, almost like a ritual of sorts. When we do them full of the love of the Lord and to serve and worship Him, then it brings a whole new meaning to our service and sacrifice.

Let me emphasize today that God wants you to be with Him more than He wants you to do things for Him. Take time to be with Him today and get to know Him!!

Memorize this verse today:

"I’d rather for you to be faithful and to know me than to offer sacrifices."
~Hosea 6:6
