"I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile."

I Am Not Ashamed

University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is famous for his Heisman Trophy wins, his fierce competitiveness, and his left handed throwing arm. He is also famous for his off the field kindness, philanthropy, and for writing verses on the black patches under his eyes during each game. In front of millions of people each Saturday, Tim puts a Bible verse for the world see. And, during one of his last games as quarterback for the University of Florida, he put Romans 1:16, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”

We don’t all have the audience that Tim has. He is a very successful and popular college football quarterback who is likely heading to the NFL. But, even though we aren’t watched by millions of people each week, we do have an audience. Are you demonstrating your faith? Are you showing others that you are not ashamed of the gospel?

Tim is in the headlines this week again. This time, though, it’s not for football. He is in the headlines because of a Focus on the Family commercial that he and his mother created to air during the Super Bowl. In this commercial, Tim and his mother share their pro-life position and a little of their story. You see, Tim’s mother was very sick when she was pregnant with Tim and doctors recommended that she terminate her baby because he was likely not going to survive and he was compromising her life. However, instead of aborting her child, Tim’s mother and her husband (a pastor and missionary) prayed. They prayed specifically for him and they named him Timothy when he was born because of the good news that he was going to take to the world.

Tim has seen the power of God in his life. And, he is not ashamed of the gospel. He proudly wears it during each game and uses his influence to change lives. I encourage you to do the same today. Proudly tell others that you are not ashamed of the gospel and tell others of the power of God and how He has brought you life.

Memorize this verse today:

"I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile."
~Romans 1:16
