Today's Devotional Thought

My soul finds rest in God alone. What do those words mean for you? Maybe it is being still before the Lord for you. Maybe it is crying before Him and letting Him know how you are hurting and just spending time with Him and allowing him to refresh you and strengthen you and encourage you.
God is our rock and our fortress. Now, I have clung to these words on more than one occasion in life. When we grasp this concept, it can dramatically change our lives. The author of this Psalm is King David and at this point in his life, He is being chased by his son Absalom. Absalom is trying to kill his father David (2 Samuel 15-18). Now, I can not imagine what David was experiencing. Talk about feeling betrayed and scared and confused. David wrote these words while he was feeling all of these emotions. He had experienced, numerous times before, God’s mercy and grace, His protection and power. He knew that God was in control of his life. Because David experienced God’s protection, He was certain that God would protect Him in any life situation. Even one as crazy as the one he was in at the time.
What I want everyone to take away from these verses is this: When you have a relationship with Jesus Christ and have walked with Him and experienced His goodness and protection, then you will be able to say and know, just like David, that God is in control. He is your fortress, your rock and, in Him, you can and will find rest. You will not be shaken by the situations and circumstances that come your way because you know who is in control.
