He is My Fortress

When you read this verse what do you think? The Lord showed me this verse at a time when I REALLY needed it. We talked in the devotion and our blogs yesterday about Paul and all the persecution he faced. He was imprisoned and beaten and the list could go on and on. And despite his sufferings, it is amazing as you read through his writings how he was always positive. Paul would mention what he had faced and yet somehow it always ended with Him giving God all the praise and Glory. As mentioned in an earlier devotion this week, the scripture tells us that Paul had some sort of illness. This illness was never taken from him and it was something he dealt with, from the sounds of it, possibly daily. When I thought about Paul and his reaction and then compared my reaction to my circumstances, let’s just say I fell way short. I want to live everyday knowing that God is truly my fortress, my stronghold and deliverer, my shield in whom I take refuge.

You see, Paul knew it and believed it and lived it out. I believe that there are things that come into our lives that strengthen us for a reason that we may not understand at the time. God could be preparing you and I for things that we never dreamed of or thought of. We may face those things for that reason.

I have to be honest ladies, it sure is hard to not ask WHY when you are faced with trials. I want to believe that for a split second even Paul said WHY Lord? I am determined to not ask why all the time but to ask, what can I learn from it and how can I help others with it.

If you’re facing something today that feels and looks bigger then you can handle let me suggest my friend that you cling to this verse and know that God is your deliverer. You can run to Him and take refuge in Him and he will give you strength to face the day. Let me remind you though that God is in control and this is not yours to face alone.

Memorize this verse today:

"He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield in whom I take refuge."
~Psalm 144:2
