Verse of the Day

"Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to Thee in a time when thou mayest be found; Surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him. Thou art my hiding place; Thou dost preserve me from trouble; Thou dost surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you."

Waiting

Are you in the middle of making a big decision in your life? Are you faced with something that has the potential to change your life or someone else’s forever? I have mentioned that I am reading through Esther and studying it. Esther, in her time as Queen, is faced with a decision that will change her life and those of the Jews. Before she does anything, however, she takes the time to pray and fast and asks those closest to her to do the same. She didn’t want to make any major life decision without consulting the Lord, without spending time with Him, and searching and seeking for His direction and guidance.

Many times we have to wait on the Lord for direction and it can be very difficult. In my studies on Esther, I have read two comments by Charles Swindoll that I would like to share. The first one has to do with Esther preparing to go before the King. In those days if you weren’t invited by the King to come into his presence you could be killed by attempting to enter his court. Esther was brave and knew what she needed to do, but she prepared first. “As she prepares for her finest hour, she must wait, think, pray, stay quiet, fast, and listen in her soul.??? We can see that Esther knew the things to do to prepare for the big decision. Entering the Kings court was only the beginning. Esther had more decisions to make, but we see that she knew where to turn and what to do in the waiting.

The other comment that I’d like to share with you has to do with Esther’s outlook. She had been wronged by Haman because he wants to destroy her people, the Jews. Esther was sensitive to the Lord and trusted Him and knew that He must have a plan. And even as she is faced with Haman wanting to destroy her people, Charles Swindoll comments that, “She isn’t in a hurry, nor is she revengeful. You know why? She has been waiting on the Lord.???

How many of us, if we had been wronged in this way, would have been so patient and allowed the Lord to work and then sit back and not seek revenge? My hope is that I would have had the spiritual maturity to do that in that situation. Esther is a picture of a woman with strength and dignity. As you read about her you can see that she loved her Lord and her people and she desired to honor the Lord in EVERY action and EVERY decision that she made.

If you are waiting on the Lord for a decision that you need to make, may I suggest that you do what Esther did. You should think, pray, stay quiet, fast and listen in your soul. I promise you that the Lord will guide you and direct you if you are quiet and listening. I’ve learned that oftentimes while we wait to hear His guidance to act that God is working out the details. There are times other things need to fall into place before God can work and move in our situation. God is in control of your situation and will give you the wisdom and direction that you need to make that decision in His time.

Memorize this verse today:

"Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to Thee in a time when thou mayest be found; Surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him. Thou art my hiding place; Thou dost preserve me from trouble; Thou dost surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you."
