Today's Devotional Thought

There is a country song by Carrie Underwood called Temporary Home that is pretty popular right now. Its verses talk about different people who are dealing with things and the chorus confidently portrays how the situations that they are going through, and ultimately this earth, are only temporary. The chorus of the song is:
“This is my temporary home. It’s not where I belong. Windows and rooms that I’m passing through. This is just a stop on the way to where I’m going. I’m not afraid because I know this is my temporary home.”
It is a powerful song and a strong reminder that for Christians this world really is just our temporary home. As we read in II Corinthians 4, everything we see is temporary and we should fix our eyes on what is unseen, the eternal glory that waits for us at the end of our experiences on this Earth.
When you encounter hardships or struggles in this life, then I encourage you to remember that this is just our temporary home. What you can see is temporary and all of it will pass away. And someday, there will be no more pain, no more suffering, and we will all be in our permanent home with Jesus Christ.
Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t it such a relief to know that the pain and stress and trials of this world are only temporary?
As Paul says in II Corinthians, we must fix our eyes on what is eternal. And, as Carrie Underwood sings about, we need not be afraid because we know that this is merely our temporary home. I encourage you to download her song and play it as a reminder of where we are all really headed. And, when you do encounter troubles in this life, remind yourself that it is only temporary and someday you will experience eternity in your real home.
