What Kind of Example Are You?
Have you ever heard your child repeat something that you have said and you cringe as you hear it coming out of their mouth? I’m pretty sure all of us have had this happen to us, if not by our children then by someone who has looked up to us.
We need to realize that there are people all around us that are looking at us. And, we need to be a positive example. If you have children, then you must know and realize that they are watching everything you do and they WILL imitate you either by what they say or do. Now this can be a great thing if you have taught them well and displayed great values, but if you haven’t then be prepared for them to also imitate those negative things.
It is our responsibility to teach those around us about God’s values. This can be anything from being consistent with what we believe to displaying calmness and patience in the midst of a bad situation to how we wait in a long line at the grocery store or when we are stuck in traffic. How are your conversations with others? How are your behaviors? If the little people in your life were seated by you, what would they learn?
We should be showing and displaying in our lives the love of Jesus everywhere we are, from our homes, to the beach, to the stores that we shop at. Do your children or those around you see you writing thank you notes or making food for someone who has lost a loved one? Do they see you smiling and striving to bring joy to everyone you come into contact with? It is so important for us to be a good and positive example for those closest to us. Take a look at yourself today and evaluate what type of an example you are to those around you. We all need to be shining examples of our Lord.
