Today's Devotional Thought

Expect to Hear
Do you expect to hear from the Lord today? Or do you think that God speaks to other people, more spiritual people, but He doesn’t speak to you? Have you ever heard from the Lord?
I wake up every morning expecting the Lord to speak to me in some way that day. But, let me tell you a secret, it doesn’t always come from the typical places. Now, I have heard God speak in all the usual places like in a church service or in a song or in my daily devotions. But, I love it when God speaks to me through the unusual places. I have heard God speak to me through a car mechanic, an HGTV television program, and even in a rock n’ roll song.
How do I know that God was speaking to me through those things? I know that He was speaking to me through those things because I had just been speaking to Him about the same topic. You see, I have gotten into the habit of praying all day long. They aren’t fancy prayers, but rather me just placing my concerns, fears, and praises in front of the Lord as they arise during my day. If something strikes me, I just offer it up to Him. In a way, it is like having a constant companion that you can just have a heart to heart with at any point in your day. And, I hear God speak to me through the usual and the unusual places when I have been speaking to Him. When I heard Him through my car mechanic or from an HGTV program, I was hearing something that was answering a question or calming a fear that I had just laid before the Lord. And, when I heard these unlikely places offering information and suggestions on something that I had just offered to God, I knew it was Him. I could feel it in my soul.
Friends, if you want to hear from the Lord today, then He has to hear from you first. Present to Him your concerns, fears, joys, and anything you want to hear from Him about. And then wait expectantly to hear from Him. And, don’t expect it to come wrapped in a super spiritual package labeled “TO: You, Love: God.” Definitely look for it in the usual places like in the reading of His Word or in your devotions, but also look for it in unusual places like songs or television programs.
Do you expect to hear from the Lord today? I do. I don’t know where it is going to come from, but I know that if I present myself to Him that I will feel His presence and hear His voice. It may come from unusual places, but it will come. As long as I am seeking to be near Him, He will reveal Himself. Expect that today.
