Verse of the Day

"Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away."

~I Corinthians 13:4-8

Precious Things

What are the most precious things in your life? Are they “things” at all or are they people? I imagine that the most precious things in your life are the people in your life. They are your spouses, your children, your parents, your siblings, and your friends. And the most precious thing that you have is your relationship with Jesus Christ.

I can remember when my husband gave me my engagement ring. It was the most precious thing that I had ever owned. I remember cleaning it daily and putting it back in its box each night so that I wouldn’t damage it or lose it while I slept. It was so precious to me and not just because it was a beautiful diamond. It was precious to me because of the love that it represented. I cherished it, protected it, and treasured it.

Do you have an item that you have cherished and protected like that? Do you cherish and protect the people in your life like that?

Chances are the most precious things in your life are not your possessions. They are the people in your life. And like my diamond engagement ring was a gift that represented the love of my future husband, the people in our lives are also gifts given with love from our Heavenly Father. And, they are gifts that should be cherished, protected, and treasured.

As you look at the special relationships in your life, then focus on how much of a gift from God they are. My diamond was not perfect and neither are the precious people in our lives. But, we should still cherish them and protect them and treasure their presence in our lives. And we do that by loving them with Christ’s love. A love that is patient, kind, selfless, not proud, and never fails (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). A love that focuses on the precious nature of each person and not on the flaws that may be within each one of us.

Focus on these precious gifts today and demonstrate to them that they are the most precious things in your life simply by loving them.

Memorize this verse today:

"Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away."
