Spiritual Wellness

In a 2008 study on spiritual wellness, researchers found that high levels of spiritual wellness were related to decreased levels of cynicism, anger, fear, anxiety, self-absorption, and pessimism. In fact, these researchers went so far as to say that spiritual wellness is an antidote to these negative emotions and traits. And, in their research, they define spiritual wellness as the capacity for love, compassion, forgiveness, altruism, joy, and fulfillment.

Sounds like the fruit of the spirit, doesn’t it?

As a researcher in Psychology, I have begun seeing quite a few studies in the last decade on Biblical principles. And, you know what? Researchers are confirming what Paul and John and Peter and Jesus have told us all along. It is better for us as individuals and it is better for our relationships when we are giving and loving and compassionate and forgiving. When we portray those traits, we are psychologically healthier and our relationships are stronger and more enriching. We also feel less anxious, fearful, cynical, and angry. Jesus told us this long ago and now researchers are proving it to be true.

Do you want to live a fulfilling and satisfying life? Then, call on the Holy Spirit today and ask Him to fill you with love, compassion, and forgiveness. Earnestly seek His filling in your life through reading God’s Word, praying daily, and seeking His guidance so that you can portray these traits to others. And realize that it is a daily filling by the Holy Spirit that is going to lead to a life walking in these traits. Much like you feed your physical bodies daily for physical wellness, you must feed your spiritual bodies daily in order to have spiritual wellness.

Choose today to be filled by the Spirit so that you too can have the antidote to cynicism, anger, fear, anxiety, self-absorption, and pessimism. Choose today to spend time with God so He can fill you with His Spirit of love, compassion, altruism, and forgiveness.

Memorize this verse today:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."
~Galatians 5:22-23a
