Verse of the Day

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown in the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given you."

I am the Vine

What are vine and branches? The vine is what nourishes the branch. It is what causes it to grow and to bear fruit. When a branch is severed from the vine, its growth slows down and eventually stops and dies. And in so doing, its ability to bear fruit ceases. There are also times when these branches must be pruned back to enhance growth and the production of fruit.

Our walk with the Lord is much the same. As we look at these verses, we see that Jesus is telling the people that they must remain in him. What does that mean? How do we remain in Christ? When you think of a vine and a branch you probably think of the fact that they are attached. They are nothing without the other. For us to remain in Christ, we must be attached to Him by remaining in his word learning about who he is. As we learn about him, we build a beautiful relationship with him and we begin to walk with him and he becomes a very real part of who we are. The other thing that happens when we are remaining in Him is that we bear fruit. People will begin to see who we are attached to by the fruit that we bear. Galatians 5:22-24 lists for us the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. We can only display these characteristics when we remain in Him.

Ladies, when we live continually in the mindset of remaining in Him I believe that we can experience true peace in our lives. We must stay connected to our Lord. In the opening paragraph I stated that there are times of pruning necessary so that the branch can grow and produce more effectively. In our lives we face hard times, times we don’t always understand. I like to think of those times as times of pruning. Those times are necessary for us so that we can grow in Him, learn, mature and in return display God’s characteristics and fruit to others.

Let me encourage you today to remain in Him. Live intentionally today and pick up God’s word and read it, get to know him and ask Him to reveal himself to you. Ask him to strengthen you so that you can remain in Him everyday and out of that you will grow and be able to display God’s fruit to those around you.

Memorize this verse today:

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown in the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given you."
