Mind of Christ

How is your thinking? Do you worry about things you can’t change? Do you panic when things start going in a different direction than you thought? I am sure that there are many of you saying YES. And, I would be among them. I recently read an article on having the mind of Christ and what that means and I want to share that with you today.

What do you think it means to have the mind of Christ? Some would say that it means that we have to be perfect or sinless. Some would argue that we aren’t capable of having the mind of Christ in our flesh. And, I would say yes we aren’t able to do it in our flesh. But, we are able to have it with Christ. And, to have the mind of Christ we need to know him and we need to have an intimate relationship with him.

So, how do we do that? Romans 12:2 says “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.??? If we are going to renew our minds and have a mind that is more like Christ’s then we need to be in the Word. This is obviously going to be an ongoing process for all of us. Our focus daily needs to be on Christ and on the things that He would think. These need to be things that are honorable and loving. Philippians 4:8 tells us to think on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable. When we strive daily to be in the Word and ask the Holy Spirit to open our eyes to the scriptures and to help us live godly lives, then I believe we will have the mind of Christ.

I have to admit as I write this devotional I struggle with this concept like many of you who are reading it do. I have moments of thinking that there is no way I can consistently have the mind of Christ. Life happens around me and I get caught up in it and I begin to think like the world. I begin to think that things look very hopeless.

When I begin to recognize that kind of thinking, I have to force myself to get in the Word and pray for the mind of Christ. Yes, I said force. Because ladies, the truth is sometimes we feel defeated and we may even think we have the right to feel the way we do. And it is those times that we have to force ourselves to get in the Word and pray about what is bothering us. Having the mind of Christ involves acting like Christ. Show me in the scripture where Jesus wallowed in self pity over the circumstances in his life. You won’t find it. Instead, He went to His Father and prayed about whatever it was that was bothering Him. Christ is our example. It is His mind we are striving to have so shouldn’t we be doing the same things that He did while He was on this earth?

How is your thinking today? Do you need to change it? Why not get in the Word and ask God to give you the mind of Christ today?

Memorize this verse today:
