Today's Devotional Thought

A New Year
The New Year has begun and many of us are writing out our resolutions or goals for 2011. Many of us want to lose 10-20 lbs by watching what we eat and exercising. We want to grow in our relationships with others and with the Lord. The list goes on and on. At church yesterday, my husband said something that has stuck with me.
The Lord’s mercies are new every morning.
Many of us after a week or two will have failed in some way where our resolutions or goals are concerned. And, we will beat ourselves up about it. But I think we need to realize that every day is a new day and when we open our eyes, we can put yesterday behind us and focus on today.
What about today? What have you decided to do this year that will make a real life change in you?
Can I share something with you? I am going to, so here goes……The Lord has impressed upon my heart this year to really crave a deep and life changing relationship with Him, to crave Him more than anything else in my life. Starting today, I will be making some changes that will be extreme but I am doing them because I feel very strongly that I need to change things in my life so that Christ is first and so that I am following him, craving him, and obeying him like never before in my life.
Allow me to challenge you in this New Year to really truly put Christ first. Do something radical that shows others that you are serious about your relationship with him. Maybe do a fast of some sort or deprive yourself of something and during the time that you would be eating or doing whatever you may be depriving your self of fill yourself up with Jesus Christ. Not only will this help grow your relationship with Christ but I believe it will help in the area of discipline as well.
If we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior then we have been told to share him with others. How can we share him with others if we don’t really know Him? And the only way we are going to get to know Him is by being in his word and spending time with him. We need to be praying that the Holy Spirit would open our eyes as we study God’s word to help us understand what we are reading so that we can share it with others.
Ladies, it is a new year, a fresh start but let’s never forget that God’s mercies are new every morning and if we fail today, tomorrow is a new day and we press forward and we live for Him.
