Verse of the Day

"Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth.” So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him."

~Genesis 6:9b, 13 & 22

Are You Too Old?

How old is too old to hear the call of God? It is believed that Noah was around 500 years old when he was called to build the ark. Noah was described as a righteous man; the only person living on the earth at the time who could be called blameless because of his close fellowship with God.

God saw that the earth He created had become corrupt and he needed someone that would hear the call and follow through with the directions He had for him. God gave Noah very clear directions on how he wanted the ark built and who he wanted on the boat when the flood waters came. It took almost 100 years to build the ark and make the preparations. Imagine what people must have thought of Noah. It had never rained on the earth before and I am sure he was being ridiculed for building some big boat. But I believe in my heart of hearts that Noah never doubted the Lord’s call. God said it and Noah believed it. Noah was faithful to God’s call and God was faithful to Noah!!! Genesis 6:22 tells us that Noah did everything exactly as God had told him. If there is ever a book written about me (highly unlikely), I want it to be said about me that I did things exactly as God had told me.

What about you? Are you hearing God calling you to a plan or purpose that He has for you? Are you feeling too old? Do you doubt that God could ever use you? I’ve heard throughout my time in ministry the comments of “Oh, I am too old to do anything new for the Lord now”, or “Why would God call me to do something this late in my life,” or my favorite “What could God show me now, I have been a Christian all my life and have read through the bible numerous times.”

When I hear these comments I think of Noah. Noah should have been sitting back and enjoying the good life, enjoying retirement. What God was calling Noah to was the adventure of his life. God needed him and I don’t know about you but I sure am glad Noah answered the call because otherwise we wouldn’t be here.

This is a new year and we’ve talked about reading through the Bible, and in previous devotions and blogs we’ve talked about living intentionally so that our relationship with the Lord becomes even more intimate. We should all desire (crave) to know Jesus Christ like no other in our life. As we spend time with Him and walk in close fellowship with Him, I believe that God will call us to do amazing things for Him. I don’t believe that it matters what our age is. You could be reading this and be in 20’s or your 70’s, and I want you to understand that if God can call Noah at 500 to build an enormous boat, then he can call you to do and work for Him.

Memorize this verse today:

"Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth.” So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him."
