Verse of the Day

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

~Colossians 3:16-17

When we step foot in church and the music begins and we start singing praises to our God is your heart filled with gratitude and thankfulness? I dare say that for many of us, by the time we have walked into a service Sunday morning our minds are on anything but gratitude. We have rushed the kids out the door, fought with them about what they are going to wear, and where or what we are going to eat for lunch. The truth is, like today’s verse says, that music then plays a big part in our lives where thankfulness is concerned. When you look at the lyrics of several hymns or even some of the newer praise choruses, they are written in a way that truly worships our Lord. And these words, as we sing them, should bring us into a time of thankfulness for who God is and what He has done for us.

Today’s verses in Colossians tell us that whatever we do in word or deed should be done all in the name of Jesus and we should be giving thanks to God the Father through Him. What does that mean to you? Ladies, we should honor God in all aspects of our lives - even in the daily tasks we accomplish. We need to be aware that no matter where we are or what we are doing we represent Christ! We are a testimony to those around us. When we strive to honor Him with our lives and express gratitude and thankfulness to Him others do notice. And I believe will be drawn to Him.

Rachel and I recently wrote a bible study entitled “My Story” and I believe that our story, our life experiences are to be shared with others so that Christ can be seen. And I believe that by doing that we are showing others Jesus in our words and deeds. I recently heard someone say that when God heals us or helps us through those trying times we should reach out to others and share that with them so they can be comforted. There is something comforting about hearing someone we know share with us how God carried them through. It gives us hope to know that no matter what we are facing God will carry us through and comfort us. You see, in our stories (our lives), we have someone that walks with us, comforts us, strengthens us and intercedes to the Father for us. Aren’t you thankful for that? And don’t you just want to share that with others?

There are many people that leave the comfort of their homes to go over seas and share with others about Jesus Christ and it changes their lives and those who they come in contact with. Let me tell you friends, I have experienced and seen in my life (even just here in the United States) over the last few year that people seem to be more drawn to Christ when they can hear and see how he’s worked in someone’s life. When Christ works and moves in our lives and others see it, it speaks volumes and can bring others to question what it is about us that is so different and it gives us the opportunity to share our story.

Pray today that the Lord would bring someone into your path that you can share your story with and be thankful for all that God has done in it and through it.

Memorize this verse today:

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
