Today's Devotional Thought

Who or What are You Worshipping?
With all your heart, soul and mind...that is how we are suppose to love our Lord. But, I have found that there are so many things in our world that can very easily distract us from doing this very thing.
Today’s commandment in Deuteronomy was spoken to the Israelites as they entered a land that worshipped many different gods. The Lord wanted to make sure that the Israelites knew (again) that there was only one God and He was it.
How different are things today? We all live in a land where people all around us find many different gods to worship. I imagine sometimes that God is doing everything He can to get our attention to tell us this very thing…that we need to love him with all our heart, soul and mind. Instead, many choose to ignore the Lord’s voice and worship everything from money to status to children to spouses to even the stars in Hollywood. My question to any of us worshipping these other gods is: Where has it gotten you?
Oh sure, for a little while those things are great and you can find great satisfaction in them. But honestly, after awhile you become bored with your money because you can only buy so much and really you don’t enjoy those things because you have to work to be able to afford the upkeep of them. There is always the possibility of losing that job that has brought you the status you so desired. I promise you that your kids and your spouse will let you down and don’t even get me started on the stars in Hollywood.
Friends, when we are in the God’s Word and learning more about our Lord and who He is and the promises (covenants) he has made, we learn very quickly that He is who we need to worship. History, according to the scriptures, has taught us of his constant faithfulness. We see his mercy and grace and redemption over and over again throughout the Bible. When we take what we learn in His word and apply it to our daily lives, our eyes will be open and we will begin to see God’s faithfulness in our own lives and then we’ll be able to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and strength.
Who or what are you worshipping today? If you are hesitating then I would venture to say that maybe you are worshipping one of those wrong things in life! One of those things that will never ever bring true satisfaction and peace. You should only be worshipping the one true God in your life. My prayer for you today is that you would make things right with the Lord and put Him first in your life.
