Verse of the Day

"So that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is part of it."

~I Corinthians 12:25-27

Body of Christ

We all have a place in the body of Christ. So, what is it you are doing in the body of Christ?

For years, I struggled with what it was that I offered the church. Those of you who know me know that I am passionate about music. In fact, I think I sang before I could speak. That is a great gift and I was and I am very thankful for it. But for me, I felt like it was ALL I did and it was how people knew me. I wanted to teach or do something else that I thought was so much more important and I would talk to the Lord about it. As I look at it now, I feel like I basically was telling the Lord that the gift he had given me just wasn’t good enough.

How many of you have done this? You know, we always seem to want the gift that someone else has. Oh sweet friends, the Lord has shown me through today’s verses that we all are given gifts and talents to be used for him and they are all very important. We need to stop first of all and thank him for the gifts he has given us and then ask him where in the church we can use the gift(s) that he has given us instead of asking him to give us other gifts.

How do you respond when someone in the church is honored based on their gifts? Are you excited for them and rejoice with them? Or are you jealous wishing you were up there in their place? How about if someone is suffering? Are you the type of person to go to them and cry with them and do your best to comfort them and help them through? Or are you the type that is apathetic?

Friends, let me share something with you. We, as believers, are in this world together. The Bible is very clear that we will face persecution. And, I don’t think for one moment that we are to live this life alone. And one of the best parts about being part of the body of Christ is that we don’t have to live life alone because we have each other in the church. In the church, we can encourage each other, help each other, rejoice with each other in our times of celebration and weep in our times of sorrow. That is how God intended our lives to be on this earth and it is so beautiful when it truly happens within the church.

But, do we always do that for each other? And, how about as women? How do we, as women, treat each other?

There seems to be such competition among us. We struggle with women who are prettier than us, smarter than us, that appear to be better mothers and wives than us. We tend to pull away from other women. Some of this stems from our own insecurity but I believe we are mean to one another when we start to feel insecure. This is not how we are to be ladies. As Christian women, we need to be there for one another in love and support and encouragement. There are enough things in this world that beat us down and we don’t need for it to be each other.

Allow me to encourage you today to reach out to another woman in your day that the Lord lays on your heart and encourage her. Maybe you know someone in your church who is struggling with her kids, in her marriage or for some other reason. Why not call her today and just let her know you are praying for her and that you are there for her if she should need someone to talk to. Living this Christian life in such a sinful world is difficult, so let’s be there for one another on this journey to heaven.

Memorize this verse today:

"So that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is part of it."
