Just Savor It
Life can be tough sometimes. And there are weeks, months, or even seasons of life where things just aren’t going the way we had planned, every demand upon us is too burdensome, and we just simply don’t have enough strength to face each day. But in those times of stress and burden, when we have a day that simply uplifts us, it feels just glorious.
I had a day like that yesterday.
It was a normal Thursday. Wendy & I lead two Bible Study groups on Thursday: one in the morning and one in the evening. And, we typically spend the afternoon running errands or having downtime separately. But yesterday, we decided to go out to lunch after Bible Study and just have fun. We didn’t plan on talking about anything particularly deep, although we did get into a couple of meaningful discussions. But, we just laughed, talked, and enjoyed being friends. After lunch, I had about an hour to have quiet time and reflect before the kids came home and then we were off to Dairy Queen night for the kids’ school and another Bible Study session.
On the surface, it seems like a busy day and one that could have left me quite exhausted at the end of it (especially since my husband has been traveling this week and I have been taking care of our three kids alone all week). But instead of being tired at the end of the day when I finally sat down, I just smiled at the wonderful day I had. A day of meaningful conversation with our Bible Study groups, beautiful fellowship and fun with my BFF over lunch, and quiet time with the Lord in the afternoon. In many ways, it was the perfect day.
Like most women, I find myself having very busy days, weeks, or seasons of life where I can be stretched thin and weary. But, I believe that days like yesterday are sent from God to enjoy and to refresh me. In Jeremiah 31:25, God is telling the Israelites that he “will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” And I felt that type of refreshment that comes only from the Lord yesterday. On a day that should have exhausted me, I felt rejuvenated by the end of it. And that rejuvenation, sweet sisters, is simply from God. He delighted my heart yesterday with a wonderful day and I savor it as a moment of refreshment in the middle of a demanding season life.
Have you had moments or days where you feel God’s refreshment? Take notice of those moments, savor them, and thank God for these times when he refreshes your weary soul. And more than anything, recognize those moments as loving embraces from your Father above who cares for you and seeks to fill you with all the strength you need to carry on in life.
