Verse of the Day

"Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge."

Life's Pain

Where do you find your rest? Who do you turn to when you are faced with a terrible situation? The truth is that we will face situations in life that are painful. One of my family’s favorite movies is “The Princess Bride” one of my favorite lines in the movie is “Life is pain Highness, anyone who says differently is selling you something.” That is a very true statement!

Some people are under the assumption that when you become a Christian all of your problems go away or maybe they are easier or they are less. Well, I hate to break this to you, but that isn’t true and those of you who have been Christians for a long time know that.

Life’s pain does not go away. But, what happens when you come to Christ is that you are then given the tools to handle life’s pain. We see in these verses that our rest needs to be in Jesus Christ and that our hope comes from Him. That we can pour out our hearts to Him and He hears us and becomes our refuge. Many times when we look back after going through something painful we see how God held our hands through it or maybe He carried us through our pain. We have a refuge, someone to go to, someone who knows our pain, someone who will hold our hand through it. So friend, when life’s pain comes don’t try to handle it on your own.

One of those tools that we have is God’s Word. We have the joy of being able to read the words of our Lord. To read and have our hearts encouraged and uplifted as we learn about the people in the Bible who faced trials and temptations. We can see how they handled life’s situations. We can read the Psalms and hear the words of David as he is filled with anguish because of the way he handled things in his life. In today’s Psalm we see David expressing himself to the Lord. His son Absalom is living a life of rebellion and David is pouring out his heart to the Lord. David knows that his hope and trust is in the Lord and that he can and will endure this crisis. You see, David learned that in life there will be more problems and that we must find our enduring hope in the Lord.

Another tool we have is our conversations with the Lord. God craves our conversation. He loves when we come to Him and ask Him for help. When we learn, like David, that the best way to handle life’s problems is to rest in Jesus, life will be filled with joy unspeakable. I don’t know about you but I couldn’t get through a day, let alone a problem, without the Lord. There is so much freedom in being able to let go and let God. So if you are facing something today that is painful and you are struggling and don’t know where to turn or what to do, then rest in Jesus. Turn to Him and pour out your heart to him. Let him become your refuge through this storm.

Memorize this verse today:

"Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge."
~Psalm 62:5-8
