Today's Devotional Thought

Do you often find yourself trying to explain to God what YOUR plans are? If you’ve ever found yourself facing a situation that you didn’t plan on then you know why I am asking this question. Something comes up in your life and you try to explain to God why your way or plan is better or you question what his plan is in the midst of your world falling apart.
Today’s verses were written concerning the people of Israel. They were foolish enough to think that they knew what God was thinking and planning for them. We are much like them. We want to try to figure God out. We will never be able to fit God into our mold. We will never be able to make his plans morph into ours. We have to learn what his plans are for us and begin to move forward in them.
I’ve learned that when God has a plan for our lives, it is bigger and better than we could ever imagine. I think we struggle in the midst of change in our lives, especially if that change brings about great uncertainty. We feel great angst if we don’t know the next step because it makes us uncomfortable (I believe because we are feeling a loss of control). This my friends is where faith and trust come in. Being in a relationship with the Lord, we must learn to trust him just like we trust our spouses or someone else in our lives that we love. Many of us know that our loved one would never lead us in a direction that would harm us or not be good for us. The Lord sees what is ahead of us and many times when we think that God isn’t even there or that he doesn’t care, he is working behind the scenes for us and working out his plan and purpose for our lives.
How can we be certain of what God’s way is for us? I love that question so much and I have an answer. But let me ask a question first. What are you facing in your life right now that is creating angst, uncertainty and stress? I want you to think about that first. Then I want you to memorize today’s scripture along with Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I know from experience that when we are facing uncertainty in our lives it can feel as though God doesn’t care because if He did, surely he would be doing something about what we are facing. But when I found these verses in Isaiah it changed my thinking. I began to ask God in the midst of my uncertainty what his plans were for me. I began to understand that God’s ways are higher and that his thoughts are way beyond mine. I began praying and searching his word for even more scripture to hold on to and be encouraged by. This my friends is what you must do: be in His word and pray for peace in the midst of your situation and pray for wisdom and guidance. For me, and I believe it will be for you as well, those times of uncertainty are times of growth and they are times of God grooming us for what he has for us next. His plans are so awesome. You must believe that even in the midst of uncertainty in your life. The circumstances that we so often face are ones that we must face in order to get to the better life that God has for us, to get to the ways he has for us.
Friends, I don’t know what you are facing today and I don’t ever want you to think that I think life is easy and that you just have to pray and read the Bible and everything we will great. I KNOW life is tough and I personally could make a list of things that I have faced in the last several years that made me feel like I was going to be crushed under them. But I kept telling myself that God’s ways are higher than mine and that He has a plan for me and that plan is not to harm me but to give me hope and a future. So friend, those words are my encouragement to you today. No matter what you are facing cling to those words and be encouraged. God loves you so much and he is there for you in the midst of whatever you are facing.
