God Weighs Our Heart
Have you ever noticed how we can always find excuses for why we do the things we do! Our children are great at it. They can explain away their bad behavior by blaming it on their sibling, on the dog, on their friend, or maybe the devil made them do it. We as parents, hopefully, see right through them.
Do you think that God is the same way? Do you think he can see right through us?
In today’s verse, we see that the Lord weighs the heart regardless of what we think or say. God looks and sees our motives behind what we do. He knows our heart.
We are faced with choices everyday in our lives and some days those choices aren’t always easy. Maybe the right choice isn’t always clear. I believe in all situations that we need to look at the situation and ask ourselves, what is my motive behind what I am doing? Is it a good motive or is it a selfish motive? After that, we should ask ourselves if God would be pleased with our reasons for making the decision we are making. God, honestly, is not pleased when we do good things only to expect something in return.
Even in the church we oftentimes see people who do things because they crave being noticed, acknowledged, and praised. They are expecting it. If you are doing things in the church to be noticed and praised then let me tell you that is the WRONG motive. We should have the desire to serve just because we love the Lord and want to show that to others in a sincere way without recognition. Because, our recognition will come from the Lord.
Ask yourself today why do you serve in the church or why do you make the decisions you do. Are your motives to be recognized and praised for what you do and how you contribute? Or, are your motives truly to serve the Lord and others because you genuinely love them and want to give of your time, talents and resources? Let me encourage you today to really pray and ask God to reveal the truth to you in this area.
God knows you heart and if your motives are good and God-centered then he will bless you. Your reward and recognition will come from him and honestly that is the best place for it to come from.
