Verse of the Day

"The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, have never abandoned anyone who searches for you."

My Refuge

In our world today many people are facing serious trials, anything from cancer to marriage problems, aging parents or teenage children. I see so many people in our ministry who are facing these types of trials and my heart is heavy for them. We pray for them and lift them before the Lord. We pray for wisdom in the way we should counsel them and in the ways that we should love them through their time of great pain.

The Lord showed me today’s verses and as I read them and studied them He reminded me that those people who are so dear to me that are facing great struggles have someone to go to and call in their time of need and that someone is HIM. You see friends, when you have a relationship with the Lord and search for him in your trials, you will find him. And he will help you through your darkest hour. He NEVER abandons you and will never leave you to suffer alone.

Maybe you are reading this today and you are the one facing a terrible life situation. You may have a relationship with the Lord, but you are feeling alone and abandoned. Just search for HIM friends. I know that searching for him in the midst of our pain can be difficult; there are so many distractions around us. There are people who want to help and really they sometimes end up hurting more than helping. We strive to listen to God’s voice but we are weighed down by what we are facing. We try to pray and we hear nothing.

So what do we do?

Psalm 46:10 tells us to be still and know that I am God.

Friends, if you are facing these trials, BE STILL!!!! There are times in our lives when we have no choice but to be still. When we come before him and earnestly calm our hearts and listen, I believe we will hear from him and he will give us the peace and comfort that we so desire in the midst of our trials.

Will they always go away? I wish I could tell you yes, but I can’t.

Today’s verses not only tell us that he won’t abandon us but they tell us that he is our shelter and our refuge. What does that mean? The definition of refuge is a place providing protection or shelter, a source of comfort, help or relief in times of trouble. So even if our trials do not go away, there is such comfort in knowing that in spite of them, the Lord is our refuge, a place that we can run to and feel safe and where we can find relief from our troubles.

Who are you running to today? Who is your refuge? My prayer is that you are running into the arms of Jesus and allowing him to be your refuge during your time of great need and great pain. Please know today that you are not alone and when you search for him, you will find him. He will not abandon you.

Memorize this verse today:

"The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, have never abandoned anyone who searches for you."
~Psalm 9:9-10
