Encourage One Another
“I love you.” That is all the text message said and it was all I needed it to say that day. I was feeling discouraged at the time and that “I love you,” lifted my spirits and meant so much in a moment when I needed the encouragement that comes from feeling loved.
Doesn’t it just feel so good when someone tells you that they care about you? Hearing those words reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles, we are not alone in our joys, and simply that we have others to live life with on this earth. We are reminded that we have people who care what happens to us. Luci Swindoll has said, “I believe it is a mission that God himself has put in all of us. As believers, we do not live on an island. We are part of a great universe of people who are loved by God, and his desire is that, as his children, we care about the others.”
Encouragement is just that. It is showing someone that you care by standing beside them and supporting them in life. It is the simple I love you text. It is a hand written note that shows up randomly in the mail. It is the right Bible verse at the right time posted on your Facebook wall. It is a voicemail from a friend who can’t wait to get together soon when you are having a bad day. It is any number of gestures that shows someone that you care about them and it gives them a little boost in their day.
Don’t we all love to receive encouragement from others? As we see in Hebrews, we are called to encourage each other and to think of novel ways to show others that we care. In fact, by encouraging and strengthening others, we are equipping them to then pay it forward in their own lives and thus encourage other people with outbursts or love and good deeds.
Wouldn’t you just love to start a chain of encouragement today? Encourage someone in your life with an I love you text or an email with a Bible verse. Show them that they are special and valuable to you and to God. And, I think you will find that as you encourage others today, the Father also encourages you.
