Today's Devotional Thought

No One Else
Recently, I read a passage by Beth Moore in which she was talking about the first Bible study she ever wrote. She talked about how she was frustrated that she couldn’t find a women’s Bible study with the content and depth of Henry Blackaby’s Experiencing God. And then, she comments, it hit her: she should write one. So, she wrote her first Bible study and the rest is, as they say, history.
When I read her description of her entrance into curriculum development and writing Bible studies, I was impressed by her initiative and gumption. I read it yesterday and thought about it most of the afternoon and evening. And in my head, I could hear her saying to God, “Okay, if it doesn’t exist, I’ll do it!”
Now, her description of it is a little less heroic and dramatic than my visualization of it. In fact, she describes it as “moaning” and “complaining” to God about the fact that it didn’t exist. “Why doesn’t someone write these sorts of Bible studies for women?” And she said that she realized that she was asking someone else to do what God wanted her to do.
How about you?
Maybe God isn’t asking you to fill a niche in Christian publishing. But, maybe he is asking you to fill a position at your church or in your community or in your family. So many times, we sit back and complain about the things that don’t exist or the projects that are not getting done or the ministries that are going unfulfilled. But is it possible that they remain undone or unfilled because God wants you to do them?
What do you notice around you that needs to be done for the Lord? Is he asking you to do it? Pray today that God will show you those unmet needs and projects that he wants you to do for him. Maybe he wants no one else to do it so that you can. And who knows, it could just be the start of your destiny!
