Verse of the Day

"The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the LORD was filled with the cloud."

A Taste of Heaven

Every time I would return home after a Women of Faith conference, I would tell my husband that I just wanted to live in a constant state of Women of Faith. If you have ever been to a large conference like that, then you know what I mean. I just want to live on the mountaintop in a constant state of praise and worship where the Lord feels so close.

But instead, every time I come home from a weekend event like that, I am hit with reality: laundry, a 6 a.m. wake-up to get the kids ready for school, an early trip to the gym to work-off all the food I ate, and all of the daily hassles that come with being a woman. And I used to find myself so frustrated and sad on the Monday after an amazing mountaintop experience because reality seemed to just slap me in the face.

But, do you know what? For the first time, I don’t feel that sadness or frustration today. Instead, my heart is full as I reflect on the weekend and I am filled with such hope.

This past weekend, Wendy and I traveled to Pennsylvania to attend a ladies conference featuring Sheila Walsh (one of the speakers with Women of Faith). The entire weekend was fabulous. It was about a six hour trip for us and like we always do, we talked and laughed about everything imaginable on the way up. My stomach muscles were sore from laughing when we arrived!! Once we arrived, we had a great evening of talking, eating, and more laughing with Wendy’s parents and her niece.

The conference on Saturday was everything I was expecting and Sheila brought so many powerful things that each one of us needed to hear. On Sunday, we enjoyed an amazing Spirit-filled church service and a meaningful talk over lunch with Wendy’s parents before we made the 6 hour trip home. And yes, my stomach muscles were sore again when we arrived home from all the laughing Wendy and I did on our road trip home.

And then nothing is better than seeing your kids running to you as you arrive home, so excited to jump in your lap and cuddle for a few minutes before they have to go to bed. It was definitely a mountaintop, God and love-filled weekend that leaves me smiling this morning.

If you ever have an opportunity to go to a women’s conference like Women of Faith or like the event I attended this weekend, then I urge you to go. And, go with your best friend or some girlfriends from your church or family. There is truly nothing better than worshipping the Lord alongside your friends with thousands of other women. And I believe, it is a taste of heaven. It is a momentary glimpse into what it will be like when we have nothing to worry about except worshipping our Lord alongside the people we love.

A day is coming, dear friends, when you won’t have to worry about grocery shopping or running to the gym or laundry or strained relationships or any of the hardships and stressors of life. A day is coming when you will get to worship and sing and laugh and bask in the presence of the King. And as I reflect on the piece of heaven that I got to experience this weekend, I smile and am filled with excitement at the thought that even though I live in a hard world right now, someday I will live on that mountaintop for all of eternity.

Memorize this verse today:

"The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the LORD was filled with the cloud."
