That Settles It

“God said it. I believe it. That settles it.”

I heard that statement for the first time at a leadership conference last week and just loved it. I love the simplicity of it and the finality of it. God said it and we should believe it. Period.

But what happens, when you just don’t feel like that settles it? You know, those times where you know what God has said and you do believe him, but you still feel uneasy.

We all have those periods in life where we feel uncertain. Maybe it is during a period of great loss. Maybe it is during a period where you feel all alone. Maybe it is during a period where you feel like a dream has been lost. Or maybe it is in a period where you are taking on a new challenge and feeling unsteady in the process. And in those times, I find that I am good at boldly saying “That settles it!” in the daytime hours, but I can feel less settled as the night and the doubts creep in.

So what then? Even if you know God said it and you do believe he said it, but you just don’t feel like that settles it?

One of my favorite songs right now is a song by Steven Curtis Chapman called God is it True. I have put it here so that you can listen to it. It is one of my favorites right now because I believe that it can help us with the “unsettled-ness” that we sometimes feel. Much like the statement above is very simple, this song is equally simple in its message. And, the message of the song is simply God saying, “Trust me.”

When we talk about that “unsettled-ness” that we feel in life, I believe we are talking about trust. In fact, I think it is us wavering in our trust of God.

Trusting God is one of the central themes of the Bible. Abraham had to trust God. The Israelites had to trust God. David repeatedly proclaimed his trust in God. And numerous times, we are told to trust him. We see evidence all through the Bible of God’s faithfulness and trustworthiness. And, if you are anything like me, you have ample evidence in your own life of how trusting God has been better than relying on yourself.

Friends, when God says something to you and you believe it, then it really should settle it. The doubts that creep in and create that unsettledness is merely Satan trying to tell you to not trust God. It is Satan’s oldest trick in the book: make you doubt God. But, as the lyrics of this song say, if everything that God says in the Bible is true, then you can trust him and it does, in fact, settle it.

God said it. You can believe it. And it truly does settle it.

Don’t let Satan un-settle it.

Trust God today friends. Trust God.

Memorize this verse today:

"Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me."
~John 14:1
