A New Thing
When will this ever end?? How long will I continue to dwell on what happened to me? How long Lord? These are questions we have asked at some point in our lives and/or we have heard others ask them.
When I read this scripture I hear the Lord saying to put those things behind us, don’t dwell on them. God has amazing things for us.
In ministry, my husband and I see many people who have gone through discouraging things in their lives; things that are hard for them to put behind them and move forward to the new things that God has for them. As I listen to them, there is a real part of me that understands there desire to dwell because sometimes letting go means letting go of a person or thing or situation that keeps them attached to a time period that they don’t want to forget. What I long for people to understand is that when you let go of the former things and allow God to do a new thing in your life, it is amazing. It is like waking up to a day of beautiful sunshine after a long period of rain. God wants us to experience genuine happiness that only He can give and when we harbor all those negative emotions we are being robbed of that genuine happiness.
There was a period in my life that I held on to the pain and hurt of something that had happened to our family and I felt that if I let go of it then somehow I was letting the person who caused that pain and hurt to win and thus justifying what they had done. Not letting go brought more pain into my life than I can even explain. I allowed that situation to control my life and I was paralyzed. When I decided and recognized that I had no choice but to let go if I wanted to move forward in my life and allow God to do a new thing, a new journey began and oh my, what a journey it has been.
Ladies, it is time to let go of the former things. It is time for us to put at the feet of Jesus all the pain and hurt that we have been through and that continues to hold us captive. We must let go and not dwell on those things. We have to come to the understanding that God wants to do a new thing in us, one that will give us more joy and satisfaction than we could have ever dreamed.
What is holding you back today? Is it that you are struggling to trust him? Is it that you are afraid if you let go and forgive that you will be saying its okay that you were hurt? All I can say today is that God doesn’t desire for us to live a life that is full of fear, unforgiveness, and bitterness. He desires for us to live an abundant life. God is telling you He wants to do a new thing. Open your hearts to Him today and allow Him.
