Today's Devotional Thought

Where's Your Focus
What do we focus on? I’ve learned in life that I have a choice as to what I will focus on. I can focus on all the things I wish I had which will lead me to then dwell on negative things until Satan has filled my mind and discouraged me. Or I can learn to be content with what I have in life and dwell on all the ways that the Lord has blessed me.
Think about your day and all the thoughts that fill it. Are they positive? Are you expressing gratitude to those around you and to the Lord?
It is so easy to find yourself in a negative frame of mind in the middle of your day, I know. There are so many things to distract us. We have children that we take care of daily that need our attention. We have bosses that give us deadlines to meet and they remind us that we are under the gun. We have meetings and projects to complete and a house to clean and food to cook. And, that is only part of our day. In the midst of all of it, sometimes, we can get overwhelmed and frustrated. What we need to do is stop and think about how grateful we should be to have a job, children, a home and the ability to work to complete various projects.
Take a look at your life today. Do you find yourself filled with negative emotions? Maybe it is anger, sadness or depression. I’ve experienced these emotions at different times in my life and let me share with you that many times when I stopped and looked at why I was feeling the way I was feeling, I discovered that my thought life was negative and those negative thoughts fueled my discouragement. This scripture tells us clearly that whatever we think about is what we are. We must focus on the positives in our lives. We must spend time thanking God for all the blessings that we experience and that we know that are from Him.
Let me add to ladies, that we also need to be filling our minds with God’s Word. The scriptures are full of wonderful verses that encourage us and uplift us and strengthen us. In those moments when we are discouraged and feel down we can recall those passages of scripture that we have memorized and they will fill us up and give us hope and encouragement.
Don’t allow Satan to creep into your thought life. Satan would like nothing better than to trap us and fill our minds with negative thoughts. God desires for our minds to be filled with positive, beautiful, and healthy thoughts. And when we focus on those things we will defeat Satan’s attacks.
