And They Believed
Yesterday, Wendy shared the story of Jonah and how many were affected because of one man’s sin. Like she said yesterday, the men on the boat that Jonah was on feared for their lives when God sent the storm in response to Jonah’s disobedience; they thought they were going to die and it was all coming from one man’s sin.
When we look at the first chapter of Jonah, I was also struck by something else. I absolutely love how God took a bad situation, Jonah’s disobedience, and used it for good. Not only did God teach Jonah about obedience and following him, but he also revealed himself to the men on the boat. Something that started out bad, God was able to use for good. And he was able to use Jonah’s disobedience to bring more people to him.
Isn’t that amazing?
The story of Jonah is such a familiar story. We learned it in Sunday School as a child and sang songs about it. But when you dig deeply into it, you will see that it is a beautiful story of man’s choice to disobey, the consequences for that, and then how God can use it for good. The men on that boat were able to see something amazing and learn about God because God still worked in Jonah’s life after his disobedience.
Are you feeling like you have been disobedient or can’t be used because of some of the choices you’ve made? Friends, don’t give up. Even if you have disobeyed God, he can still use you and he can still bring others to him through the choices you make now. Like Jonah did, take ownership of your disobedience and let God work through you now. And when you repent and turn over your disobedience to him, I think you will find that God will do amazing things.
