Today's Devotional Thought
July 07, 2011 by Rachel Piferi
Several times each week, I read the blogs and devotions from Christian women whom I respect and follow. And yesterday, I was reading one of these women’s blogs and something she wrote intrigued me. I want to share that with you today.
In her blog yesterday, she wrote about the start of her ministry and the importance of writing her mission and vision statements. And she went on to talk about how she wrote the vision statement for her ministry. As she described it, she mentioned that one of her friends and early mentors recommended that she write a grand vision for her ministry. In fact, she stated that her friend told her, when writing her vision statement, to “make it something impossible.” She went on to write that her friend said to write “something so big that only God could do it.”
Don’t you just love that?
I am a dreamer and I love BIG dreams. And I love the rationale that this woman gave for dreaming big dreams. She said that you should dream big and make it something that you can’t do on your own, so that when it happens, you know that God did it!
That is just so cool to me and so exciting. It instantly made me think of the verse that I chose to be today’s verse, which I just love in the Message version: “God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.” (Ephesians 3:20, MSG).
God can do anything and he does his work through his people. And God wants to wow us and he wants to wow others with what he can do. But, he won’t be able to do it, if you don’t open yourself up to being used in impossible ways. Like it says in the latter part of this verse, God doesn’t do his work by pushing us around. He does it by guiding us gently and deeply within.
Do you feel that gentle, deep stirring in your soul? Do you have an impossible dream that God has laid on your heart? Girlfriends, if you do, then don’t let go of it. Just believe that if God placed that dream deep in your soul then he will fulfill it. And, the more impossible it seems, the better. Because then you will know, without a shadow of a doubt, that God did it.
Sweet friends, when you are having your quiet time with the Lord today, spend some time dreaming with him. Ask him to place his big dreams in your soul and then dare to dream them. And then prepare to be awed when God makes them happen. Because, God can do anything, you know? Far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!
Dream big, my dear friends. Dream big!
