Today's Devotional Thought
August 25, 2011 by Wendy Foreman
I love today's verse! In fact, over the last few weeks this verse has popped up in various Bible readings and Bible studies that I have worked on. This verse gives me such hope. We all have faced or will face tough times. Things will happen in our lives that we are shocked by and hurt by.
I experienced that 2 1/2 years ago.
My husband and I were hurt by someone very close to us. It was a betrayal of sorts. And when it unfolded, we were stunned and found ourselves wondering exactly what was going on. I remember praying and asking God that very question...
What is going on?
I remember feeling so desperate and searching for answers to our situation. I was searching the Bible, devotional books, and really anything I could get my hands on that I thought would help.
And this verse was among the verses that I read and also was a verse given to me by a friend.
God has plans for our lives.
And although, at times, we don't see how our situation fits into them, I believe that in the midst of the questions and the pain, we must dig down deep and find our strength to move forward and while moving forward ask God to reveal to us His plans. For my husband and me, we did go through a very difficult time. But in the end, we saw God's plan and we knew, and have learned, that we do have hope and a bright future in our Lord.
I have seen God do amazing things through a difficult situation and ladies, I have to tell you that if I didn't go through that difficult time I would not be walking with the Lord in the way that I am now. When we went through our situation I felt so alone. Being raised in the church and being in ministry, I fell back on what I knew and honestly had neglected. And that is the Lord. I spent days sitting on my couch reading the Bible and having conversations with the Lord. I learned that the Lord is the only one who I can truly depend on and trust. I saw Him so differently through our terrible situation. Although His plans involved pain for our lives for a season, it brought about abundant joy in lives in the end. And that is what this verse means to me.
How does this verse help you, though?
I don't know what is going on in your life today. Maybe you are reading this and your life is great, praise the Lord! Maybe you are reading this and your life is falling apart. Maybe your marriage is ending, your child is rebelling, or you have turned to something or someone other than the Lord and you are regretting it now. Things may look hopeless to you, but please listen to me...
God does have a plan for your life.
God would never do anything to harm you; He only wants to see you prosper. He wants to give you hope and a future that is bright and endless. Don't be mistaken friends, you may face hard times and there may be pain, but I have tremendous faith that in the end, it will bring you to a place where God wants you to be.
Take time now to talk with the Lord and seek his wisdom and direction for your life.
