Just Say Yes

How many of us really stand before the Lord and say, "Lord, wherever you want to send me, whatever you want me to do I am available and ready?" In today's passage, Mary has just been told by the angel that she would be the mother of Jesus. The mother of the long awaited Messiah. Now, I am sure that in Jewish culture everyone talked about this coming Messiah. Who would his parents be? Who would be chosen for such an incredible role in history? Earlier in this passage of scripture we read where the angel greets Mary by saying, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." Mary was a young, poor female. By all appearances, Mary was the least likely that the Lord would pick for such an important role in history. The angel very clearly stated though that Mary was highly favored. I believe that Mary was a godly young woman who was obedient and open to whatever the Lord had for her life. All throughout the Christmas story you see God using ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

When I think of how to take this scripture and apply it to our lives, this is what comes to my mind. How many of us really stand before the Lord and say, "Lord, wherever you want to send me, whatever you want me to do I am available and ready?" I believe that so many of us are afraid to say that to the Lord because we are afraid of what He might ask us to do. What if He asks me to go to a foreign land? What if He asks me to lead a bible study? What if he asks me to start a new ministry? What if he asks me to change?

So what if He does?

Oh Ladies, God is so good and He is faithful. If God does call you to do these things, He will equip you to do them and what you will learn and how you will grow will be amazing.

I remember when I agreed to fill in for the 2nd grade teacher and consider possibly teaching the next school year. I went to one of the other teachers and asked her to pray for me because I really didn't know what I had gotten myself into. She looked at me and said, "Wendy, God doesn’t call the equipped He equips the called." That has always stuck in my mind.

We should all be like Mary and say "May it be to me as you have said."

If God has called you and you say yes, He will give you all you need to do the job HE has laid before you.

Memorize this verse today:

"'“I am the Lord's servant,' Mary answered. 'May it be to me as you have said.' Then the angel left her."
~ Luke 1:38
