Making a Life Change
Happy New Year to our friends of After the Miracle!
A New Year for most means New Year's resolutions. As I spoke with my husband concerning resolutions, he expressed to me that he didn't like resolutions but rather he likes to start a new year with making life changes.
I love that thought.
Many of us will start this year saying we want to lose that pesky 15 to 20 pounds. We want to go work out, eat healthier, and love more. Those are all great things to strive for and yes, we should be healthy and definitely love more, but my challenge to all of us is what kind of real life change do we want to make in 2012?
This past year I read through the entire Bible for the first time in my life. I read through it chronologically and really took time to study it and learn it and most importantly apply it to my daily life.
You know what happened?
I fell in love with Jesus all over again!! As I began to read the words he spoke and as I studied his life through the scriptures, I began to weep as I realized what He has done for me and what He has in store for me when He comes again.
I've been a Christian all my life and I grew up in the church, heard the scriptures taught, and have been in ministry for close to half my life. But this was the year that the Lord spoke to me so powerfully through His Word and gave me a tremendous love for it, to the point that I wake up with a burning desire to be in His Word each and every day and a passion to share what it says to others.
You see friends, it is important to be healthy and to live a good life, but the most important thing that we can strive for this year is getting to know Jesus like never before and then emulate Him to others. The love we desire, the forgiveness we want to extend, the anger we want to get rid of, the relationships that we want to mend, and many other things are addressed in the Scriptures. And by reading them and applying them to our lives this year, we will make a life change that at the end of 2012 we will hardly be able to express because we are overwhelmed with how God has worked and moved in our lives.
This year is going to be an amazing year!
Want to know how I know that?
Because I (we) serve a mighty God who has amazing things in store for His children this year. Yes, many of us may face difficulties, trials and loss, but our mighty God promises that He will be with us through everything we face in this life.
Deuteronomy 31:8 says, "The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."
God knows what lies ahead for each one of us in this New Year. So as his children, we can rest in the fact that no matter what comes, He will never leave us. I challenge you to write Deuteronomy 31:8 down somewhere you can see it so that you can remind yourself throughout this year that God has gone before you, knows where you are headed, and has told you to not be afraid or discouraged because He will ALWAYS be there for you.
