Verse of the Day

"I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid."

~John 14:27 (NLT)

Your Heart is Safe

"Your heart is safe with me."

A simple statement tucked within an email that showed me God's love more than any other statement ever has. A simple statement that brings tears to my eyes even now as I type it. A simple statement that makes me feel safe, secure, and very loved.

A simple statement that I think we should all strive to emulate if we are going to show Jesus' love to others.

As I think of the goals I have for 2012, my number one goal is to get to know Jesus even more so that I can love fully like he does. And, as I think of loving like Jesus, I think of the many ways that we can make someone's heart feel safe with us.

I want to share a few of the ways that I think we can make other people's hearts feel safe. I am sure there are many more, but these are just some of the ones that I want to make sure that I do in 2012.

You can make someone's heart feel safe...

...by listening to someone's hurts and fears without shock, criticism, or condemnation.

...by striving to understand someone else's perspective in every situation.

...by allowing someone to display a wide range of emotions in different situations without criticizing them for feeling them.

...by gently guiding someone back to Jesus when their emotions have gone all over the place.

...by emailing or sending a note to someone after they've shared their hurts and telling them that you love them and are praying for them.

...by guarding conversations others have had with you and not sharing any details with others.

...by always finding the ways to help in a situation rather than merely complaining about it.

...by never saying anything that compromises another person's honor, either publically or privately.

...by not gossiping about anyone to anyone. Period.

...by extending grace when someone has made a mistake.

...by forgiving when someone has wronged you.

...by asking for forgiveness when you have wronged another.

...by being patient while someone matures.

...by being honest while you mature.

...by believing in someone when they don't even believe in themselves.

I don't know about you, but I want others to feel like their hearts are safe with me. I want to love like Jesus loves and show others how marvelous his love in their life can be. A love that is unconditional, unending, so undeserved, and yet so unbelievable!

Love like Jesus in 2012 and show others that their heart is safe with you because their heart is safe with Jesus.

Memorize this verse today:

"I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid."
~John 14:27 (NLT)
