Today's Devotional Thought
January 19, 2012 by Wendy Foreman
Where are you going today? Each morning, I get up and begin my day with the Lord. I open up God's Word and begin reading and then pray for the day ahead. One day last week I woke up feeling anxious about my day and began asking God to help me with whatever lay ahead in my day. I remember thinking to myself how great it would be if we were given a road map for our day.
Think about it for a minute.
We would know exactly what was going to happen before it happened and we would already have our response ready. Or honestly, we could avoid anything bad by making a different choice, taking a different route, or saying something differently in our response to someone. Everything would be perfect if we just knew what our day held right?
That particular day, when I opened up my devotional book, I was hit with a sentence that went kind of like this: there is a great way to prepare for this day, a way that will encourage you and strengthen you and that is spending time with the Lord every day and by doing so the Lord will equip you for whatever comes your way on this journey.
I got to thinking about those words and I was struck with the idea that if I knew everything that I was going to face in my day, then why would I need God?
In our days we are hit with so many things. We could be hit with devastating news or have to deal with a situation where we need great insight and wisdom. Something could happen to a loved one or we may encounter someone who simply needs a word of encouragement or a smile. It is true that we could attempt in ourselves to deal with each and every one of these situations and perhaps handle them well, but for a minute stop and think about how God could so much better equip us to handle them. When you receive terrible news or need wisdom and direction, there is no one like Jesus. No wisdom is like our Fathers in Heaven. He created us friends; he knows what we need in every single situation we face. He knows what we will encounter in our day and that is why Exodus 33:14 is so precious. It reminds us that His presence is with us wherever we go.
Be encouraged by those words today. We don't have a road map to direct us on our journey, but we have a GPS that we can connect to and that is our heavenly Father who will personally guide us and equip us on this journey called life. That ladies, is even better.
