Don't Be Afraid

What keeps you from doing the things that God is asking you to do? I believe that most, if not all, of you are saying FEAR. My husband tells me repeatedly that fear stands for "false evidence appearing real."

How true is that statement?

We say that we could never stand in front of people and give a speech or we could never teach a Sunday school class or lead in any area of the church. We would never get up in front of people and sing or never apply for that job because what if we did not get it.

There are numerous areas that we will never walk into because we are afraid.

I was once paralyzed by fear. I knew that God was calling me to step out and do things that I had never done before when we came to our church almost 3 years ago. I was so afraid of what people would think if I did not do a good job in these areas God was calling me to.

What would they say if I fumbled over my words or accidently said the wrong thing or gave misinformation?

What if they thought I was too young and had nothing to offer them?

The thoughts were endless and the fear mounted. I had that "Moses moment" when he was at the burning bush and the Lord was telling him that he wanted him to go and lead the children of Israel out of Egypt.

Do you remember Moses' response?

He basically told the Lord He had the wrong guy. Oh how many times I have said that to the Lord.

In September of 2009, I walked into our church fellowship hall to lead my first-ever Bible study to women who I am quite certain were attending just to make me feel better since I was the new pastor's wife. After my first few weeks, I am positive that is why they stayed.

I knew in my heart that God had called me to lead those studies, but my fear was paralyzing me and I felt like I was stumbling through the questions, the prayers, and even my basic conversation with them. They were so sweet and encouraged me constantly. The more I stepped out and followed the Lord, the more I began to realize that when He is calling you into leading or into a new area of your life, then He will equip you with all you need to carry it out. I am now leading my 7th bible study with these women (and the best part is God sent me an Aaron (Rachel)) and we are having a ball and we are sharing and teaching and enjoying God's Word.

If I would have allowed my fear to keep me from stepping out and leading Bible study, I would have missed out on some of the best relationships of my life. These dear women have become my prayer partners; they have become a tremendous source of encouragement and my biggest cheerleaders in life. They are my sisters in Christ and we are journeying together and growing together in the Lord.

Do not allow the fear in your life to keep you from what God has for you. Sweet friends, if God has called you to It, He will SO equip you to do it. And the ways you will be blessed will be unexplainable. Just follow Him, trust Him, and be obedient to what He asks you to do.

I promise you will NEVER regret it.

Memorize this verse today:

"But when I am afraid I will put my trust in you."
~Psalm 56:3
