Don't Panic

Have you ever felt like God is asking you to do something that you think you just can't do?

Today's scripture is among the scriptures Moses was speaking to Joshua and the Israelites in his last days. They were getting ready to enter the Promised Land and they were going to be facing armies bigger than themselves and Moses was telling the Israelites the Lord will personally go before them, he will never leave them. I love that the Lord addresses that they may panic when they see what they are up against and he just reassures them to be strong and courageous and to know that He will go before them.

Oh I know that panic feeling. The Lord tells you to step out of your comfort zone and do something for Him. Your heart is pounding in your chest and you are having these conversations with the Lord just making sure if what he has said is really what he means. Maybe you heard him wrong; at least that is what you are hoping. You eventually come to the realization that he is stretching you and asking you to step out and do something for Him that you have never done before.

So what have you discovered when you stepped out? I would be willing to bet that you saw how strong you can be in the Lord. You saw that He really does go before you and He never leaves you. The more we do this in our Christian life the less panic I believe we will feel because we learn to trust God. Oh I do think we will have those moments of our heart beating out of our chest. Maybe from excitement, or nerves and others from the fact we quite possibly are getting ready to do something we’ve never done before.

Let me share something with you that just happened to me recently. This past Sunday I was asked to sing at an Installation service of a Pastor friend of ours. I felt honored that he asked me. My husband was asked if he would read scripture so we were both on the stage together. Just before I was to sing I looked down and the long necklace I was wearing was moving with my heart beat because it was pounding out of my chest. I have been singing probably as long as I have been able to speak. It doesn't matter, every single time I have to sing I feel like my heart is coming out of my chest. Do I panic though? No I don't. It is a sense of excitement because I get to honor the Lord through the talent he has given me.

What is the Lord asking you to do? What is it that is making you panic and feel as though you just don’t have what it takes to step up and do for the Lord? Maybe what you are facing feels like the giants in the land the Israelites were getting ready to enter. You know what? Much like the Lord promised the Israelites he was going before them he is promising you that too. Friends He wouldn’t ask you to do something impossible because with God all things are possible. We just need to understand it is through HIS strength and HIS courage that we can do those things that really do stretch us.

Memorize this verse today:

"So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you."
~Deuteronomy 31:6
