While on this Journey
We spent this past weekend with some very precious ladies from our church at the Beautiful Life conference featuring Angela Thomas as the speaker, Charles Billingsly as worship leader and Mandisa put on a concert. It was amazing!!
The Lord worked and moved in the lives of so many women this past weekend and I wept as I watched the altar fill up with women accepting Christ, women broken and seeking healing, women who were laying down burdens and women who were just seeking strength to be the woman God is calling her to be.
Angela spent much of her talk in Psalm 84 and I found myself just overcome with some of the thoughts that she shared with us and I would like to share them with you this week.
A little background on chapter 84 of Psalm is this: They were journeying to the temple in Jerusalem to worship. This was an annual event and of course for some it was a long distance and they needed strength to endure the journey. I would imagine that on this journey there were some who were so pumped up and excited to be going to the temple to worship, to fellowship, to hear lessons taught and to be with others in corporate worship. I would image also that there were many who were broken and they did not necessarily have that same kind of excitement as they journeyed on. I can almost picture people walking along talking and picking up others along the way. Perhaps if we would have been there we would have heard words of encouragement spoken to one another, laughter as stories were told about things that had happened since their journey last year.
Stop and think for a minute...doesn't this sound like our life? Of course, our church might be right around the corner so we aren't journeying in the same way, but we are journeying with other believers in our life. When the scripture says "blessed are those whose strength is in you (the Lord)," my friend, this is how we find the endurance to walk through this life. We throw our burdens onto the Lord and allow Him to be our strength as we journey.
He's got it!
God has big shoulders and can handle anything that we throw His way. Allow Him to be your strength daily as you live out your day and walk through life.
Along this journey we will find ourselves broken many times and in that brokenness is when we experience and learn who God really is. We learn of his compassion, His love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, and we feel secure in His arms in a way that is almost unexplainable to others. We experience his healing touch and know that it can only be God who has pulled us through and helped us back up and is possibly carrying us for a while on this journey until we can stand on our own again (through his strength).
Oh how I hate being broken, but I have to admit, it is when I feel the closest to the Lord and fully begin to understand who He is.
I believe that while journeying God places people in our paths that are there to encourage us and pray for us, who love and believe in us. I am very thankful for those he has placed in mine and I spent the weekend with many this past weekend.
We are a blessed people, those of us who belong to the Lord. We are all on a journey that leads to eternity and dear friends we need the strength of the Lord to help us endure and persevere while we are here.
