Today's Devotional Thought
June 07, 2012 by Wendy Foreman
Yesterday was my son's 10th birthday. He woke up to a nice breakfast; I prepared one of his favorite dinners and made cupcakes for his class last night at church. I love doing special things for my kids on their special day. For me being a mom is one of the biggest blessings in my life.
At the close of my day, I listened to my son just being a typical little boy as he had his snack and prepared for bed. I smiled and my heart was full. He is so sweet and kind hearted. He brings such laughter into our home and even though he is growing older and sometimes doesn't want those kisses from mom, I know deep down that he will always be my little boy.
When I became a mom I really didn't know what I had gotten myself into. I remember bringing home my daughter and not knowing what to do with her. We sat her on the table and stared at her and felt so ill equipped to be parents. When I brought my son home 7 years later I had some experience of course but whew, a boy, that was a little different.
Ladies, being a mom is such a privilege and an honor. We birth them, love them, raise them in ways that honor the Lord and prepare them for the world they will face in 18 short years as they leave (hopefully) our home and begin living life on their own. The job that we have as a mother is quite honestly, at times, tough, but the love that we receive from our children well that makes it all worth it.
I spent this day reflecting on being a mom and I know that I am not perfect but I am blessed and I pray every day that the Lord will lead, guide and direct me (and my husband) in raising our children in the ways of the Lord.
If you are a mom or grandmother spend time today thanking God for your children and/or grandchildren and praying for them. They need your prayers as they grow up in this world.
