Today's Devotional Thought

When you think of the things in your life that bring you joy, what do you think of? Do you think of your children laughing? Do you think of sharing time with your spouse? Do you think of enjoying lunch with friends? Do you think of your struggles and hardships?
I would imagine that most of us think of our children, our spouses, and our friends when we think of pure joy, but we probably don’t think about our trials and hardships as things that bring us joy. However, in today’s verses we are told to approach our trials with pure joy.
I sometimes can’t wrap my brain around that concept. Having faced trials in my life, I can’t say that I always embraced them and had joy. So, how are we supposed to feel joy when we’re struggling?
When you look at these verses, you see why you should feel joy when you are struggling. You should feel joy because of what is being developed in you through the trial. When we go through trials, we are given the opportunity to exercise our faith and demonstrate to ourselves and others how much we can truly withstand with God as our rock. And, we are developing perseverance and a strong faith that we can persist through any trial with God as our strength. And, I have found in my life that my trials brought me pure joy when I saw how much I could endure because God gave me the strength. To see God work like that is amazing and truly brings pure joy as you reflect on how He has worked in your life.
Friends, if you are facing trials today and are under that heavy load trying with all your might to hold it up, just remember your faith in Christ and know that He has plans for you and they are not to harm you but to give you life abundant. With God as your strength, you can endure. And trust me, when you give Him the opportunity to carry you through the trial, you will be amazed and full of joy as you look back.
