Blessings

A dear friend of mine sent me a song once that just touched her heart. And, over dessert last night, she and I started talking about this song again. I want to share it today because it has also touched mine. The song is called "Blessings" and the lyrics suggest that our trials and sufferings could be blessings in disguise because they remind us of our true Savior and that this world is not our home. One of the verses is:

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know the pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home
It's not our home

As I reflected on this song, I was overwhelmed with how true this is. I know in my life, many of my trials and hardships have truly been blessings in that they brought me closer to the Lord. I know that the events themselves were bad, but the fact that they drew me closer to the Lord was a blessing that sometimes just doesn't come in the good times.

When I think about this concept, I can't help but think about the Israelites and how they got complacent about the Lord every time things got good. And, isn't that true about us too? For some reason, when things are good, we tend to rely less on the Lord and we begin to drift away from him and into the world more. Until, of course, something rocks our world and brings us back to the realization that we canít do life on our own (no matter how many times we try).

Life is full of trials and hardships. And through the pain associated with them, we are reminded that there truly is no hope this world. Our hope is only found through Jesus Christ and the realization that he is with us as we endure this earth and will welcome us home someday to live with him in perfect peace. Let the pain of trials remind you to not put your hope in this world and to rely on the only true Savior.

Memorize this verse today:

"From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another."
~John 1:16
