Verse of the Day

"For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life & peace."

~Romans 8:5-6

Stand Up

I want to share something with you today that perhaps is not going to be real popular, but it is something that has been on my heart for a couple of weeks.

Magic Mike, a movie, and 50 Shades of Gray, a novel, have come out this summer and are considered blockbusters. The must see and read of the season. Well, I am here to say that I am repulsed by both! I am not going to use our blog to give some big long explanation on why you should not go see the movie or read the book. I simply want to share some Scripture with you that I read in a recent Pastor's wife blog that I believe will tell you what God's Word has to say.

For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life & peace. (Romans 8:5-6)

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good & acceptable & perfect. (Romans 12:2)

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence & if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. (Philippians 4:8)

You see ladies, I believe that as Christians we are held to a higher standard of living. This movie and this book are glorifying sin, not God. When we fill our hearts and minds with this kind of entertainment we are opening the door for Satan to creep in and destroy our marriage and our relationship with God. These types of entertainment give a false idea of what relationships should be like. They make relationships all about the physical and those of us who are married know that the physical is great, but there is so much more to it. It is about loving, caring, respecting, listening, and truly being there, commitment and so much more.

I believe it is time for us to stand up and be different. We should never watch this kind of entertainment or even allow our children to. They do not need to grow up thinking these types of things are okay. They totally go against God's Word. Our children need to know what a God centered relationship is.

I challenge you today to not fall into the "must see" and the "must read" of the summer because everyone else is seeing and reading them. Stand up for what you believe in.

I added a song today that I feel should be our theme song as we journey through this life. We are faced everyday with decisions and choices. And speaking for myself, I want to honor God in making them. From the things I watch on television, the movies I see, the books I read to how I interact with others every day. I want my life song to sing to Jesus. I want the Lord to be able to sign His name to the end of my day because He is pleased and knows that my heart has been true. I pray as you listen to the lyrics of this song you will be blessed and challenged to live your life in a way that honors Him every day.

Memorize this verse today:

"For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life & peace."
~Romans 8:5-6
