Today's Devotional Thought

A Loving God
Are you in a period of your life where you feel desperate for Jesus?
Today's verse became so dear to me at a time in my life when I was desperate for Jesus. A time when each day seemed dark and hopeless, yes I said hopeless. I know that as Christians we should live a life full of hope, joy and abundance, but the truth is that there are periods in our life when we get hit with circumstances that are tough, that are beyond our control and are painful. We struggle with how to make it through those days.
So what do we do?
We go to the one who can help us through. We go to his Word and search out verses that encourage us, like today's verse. We find music that speaks to our souls and uplifts us.
This verse says so much and in it we discover that our God loves us that he is that fortress we can run to, a safe haven, he shields us and protects us and my friend he will deliver us, he promises that. So be encouraged today that even in our dark periods we have a deliverer someone who will pull us through and give us hope, give us joy and give us an abundant life.
Think about this: If we never experience dark days, if we never know or feel pain then will we be able to say that God is our stronghold, our fortress the one in whom we can take refuge? I say no. If each day of our lives is filled with good things like abundance and peace, then will we see the need to drop to our knees in desperation for the Lord? Friends, the truth is we cannot truly experience the full character of God if we do not face hard times.
We know He is the comforter when we lose someone we love and are overcome with grief. We know He is the prince of peace when our life is in chaos but we sense that He is in control. There is no other way to know that unless we go through loss and chaos.
I am the first one to stand up and shout that I do not like feeling loss or I do not like when things in my life feel as though they are out of control. But I love my Jesus and I realize more and more everyday how desperately I need him in my life. I thank God for the journey I have been on and all that I have been through and the ways that I have experienced the Lord and who He is.
Ladies, maybe today you are going through a dark hour and you are on your knees crying out to the Lord. Be encouraged today by our verse, He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield in whom I take refuge (Psalm 144:2). I have no other words than to tell you to recognize where your strength comes from and who you can rest in today.
