Today's Devotional Thought
September 24, 2012 by Wendy Foreman
The Lord brought me back to today's verses a few months back while meeting with a young lady who was struggling in her marriage. I wanted to really emphasize what I thought was seen as true beauty.
So many women focus on outward appearance, which is not a bad thing. We should want to look beautiful for our husbands. Many cut their hair in the latest fashion, or wear make-up that draws out their best features and search for the clothes that will flatter their figure and make them look attractive. I do all these things for my husband and I know he appreciates them greatly. I want him to be attracted to my outward beauty and to be proud of walking beside me when we are out.
But, the question I want to pose today is this, what if I cleaned myself up beautifully on the outside but I was loud, obnoxious, disrespectful, and ugly on the inside? I know my husband well enough to know that he loves that I strive to look good on the outside (I exercise, eat well, try my best to look good) but ladies, my husband would much rather me be in the Word, be praying and asking God to show me daily how to be a more godly women, how to have a gentle and quiet spirit.
So the question I ask you today is this what do you focus on as women? There are many scriptures that guide us on what it means to be a godly woman. To be the woman that God has designed us to be. Proverbs 31:10 says, An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. Proverbs 31:26 tells us She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. And, 1 Timothy 3:11 says In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. There are so many more verses on the type of women we are called to be, but these are just a few that I found.
As I age I am reminded that outward beauty is fleeting and someday it won't matter how much make up I put on or what jeans I buy or shoes I wear. I won't be able to look young forever but what does remain is the inner beauty we obtain from walking with the Lord. No one can steal that away and it is ageless.
Today, why not get out your Bible and begin searching for verses that speak specifically about the type of women we are supposed to be. Once you find all those verses then I challenge you to spend time every day asking God to help you step up and be that woman. Ladies, you will become even more attractive to all those around you when they see the beauty of the Lord shining through you.
